FrontPage general info
FrontPage extensions are included free upon request with all accounts. Keep in mind that you will need a copy of the FrontPage program from Microsoft before you can begin following the directions below: please remember that your domain name will need to be activated on our nameservers before FrontPage will be available to your account.

What is the FrontPage Editor?
You use the FrontPage Editor to create, design, and edit World Wide Web pages. As you add text, images, tables, form fields, and other elements to your page, the FrontPage Editor displays them as they would appear in a Web browser. Although it is a powerful tool, the FrontPage Editor is easy to use because of its familiar, wordprocessor interface. You do not need to learn Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) to use the FrontPage Editor because it creates all the HTML code for you. If you want to edit HTML code directly, you can use the FrontPage Editor's HTML view. In this view, you can enter text, edit HTML tags or script code, and use standard word-processing commands such as cutting, pasting, finding, and replacing.

What is the FrontPage Explorer?
You use the FrontPage Explorer to create the structure or layout of your Web site, apply graphical themes to its pages, organize its files and folders, import and export files, test and repair hyperlinks, administer access privileges, track tasks, and launch the FrontPage Editor to design and edit the contents of your Web pages. When your FrontPage web is completed, you use the FrontPage Explorer to publish it on your computer or the World Wide Web.

FrontPage Login
Choose "Open FrontPage Web" from the File Menu in FrontPage Explorer. It will ask you for a Web Server of File Location. Enter http://yourdomain.com and then "list webs". Next, you will need to select (double-click) the root web. The requested login and password will be the same as your FTP account.

FrontPage Usage
FrontPage supplies you with two separate interfaces. The FrontPage explorer is used to manage the files within your web site. If you open a file in your web site another program called FrontPage Editor will open. When you are connected to your web then all changes made to any file you edit will be saved to your web.*Note: Although the software documentation states that you can create the site on your computer and then "publish" it to the web server, we do not recommend this. Many times publishing to the server from your computer will loose the Interactive web bots features that you may have setup when designing your site on your local computer. We recommend that you create your entire site by being connected to your web and saving directly to the server. To move files already created on your web site use the Import command found under the File menu within FrontPage Explorer to select the files to import to the server. This is by far the best method for moving files from your hard drive to the server. Using FTP to upload is not recommended as this may overwrite important files. Also, do not edit .htaccess files since FP uses these. FrontPage and FTP
If you're planning on using Microsoft FrontPage to manage your web site, there are a couple of issues
things you may want to keep in mind: There are two worlds. The General Unix hosting world, and the
Microsoft world. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, Microsoft had indeed decided to play by its own rules.   As a result, FrontPage does not always conform to the rules of Unix, so you should be extremely careful when accessing a FrontPage web via FTP.  It's easy to damage the FrontPage web, as well as it's associated server extensions, and if it happens, you may loose the ability to administrate it from your FrontPage Explorer.

To avoid problems like this:
Do not alter, or delete files that are part of a FrontPage web
Do not delete, move, or alter directories ending in _vtf. These are the FrontPage extensions

The ultimate solution:
If possible, try to create your FrontPage webs in sub-directories of your root. For example, http://www.yourdomain.com/home.
This way, you can safely FTP into your root account to perform other tasks, while avoiding the FrontPage webs, which are safely out of the way in their own separate homes. Remember! DO NOT delete any folders, which end in _vtf! This will kill your FrontPage web, and we'll have to reinstall the extensions for you.
